About The Course

The course provides a basic introduction to quantitative business method including introductions to data and business decisions, displaying and summarizing data,probability distributions and applications. This course focuses on practical applications of business data analysis.

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic knowledge of data analysis and decision making, providing foundations for the future course of Quantitative. Methods for Business Management.

Dr. Zhongxin NI

PhD, Chinese University of Hong Kong,
ChinaProfessor in School of Economics, Shanghai University, China

Dr. Zhongxin NI is now a Professor of School of Economics at Shanghai University. He got his Ph.D in Statistics from Department of Statistics, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China in July 2008. He was a senior visiting scholar of Stony Brook University from 2013 to 2014. He is now the Program Director of MS Statistics and Risk Management Program, Director of Research Center for Financial Information at Shanghai University and Executive director of the Shanghai Institute of Quantitative Economics. His research interests are Financial Econometrics, Financial Risk Management, Quantitative Investment Strategy and Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions. He was the Principal Investigator of many projects such asNational Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Innovation Program of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and Pujiang Talent Plan of Shanghai. He has published over 30 papers in some famous academic journals such as Computational Economics, Economic Modelling, Communications in Statistics, Journal of Quantitative and Technical Economics, Journal of Finance and Economics, Journal of International Trade etc. He was awardedBao Steel Excellent Teacher Prize of China in 2005, the second-class award of science and technology from China National Nuclear Corporation in 2006, and the first prize for outstanding papers of Chinese Association of Quantitative Economics in 2009. He serves as the referee of many famous academic journals including European Journal of Operational Research, Quantitative Finance, Computational Economics, Journal of International Trade, etc.(Source from faculty)
